Unit 1 The lion and the mouse

Teaching Contents: Story time

Teaching Aims:

Language skills:

By the end of this period, students will be able to

1. Tell the story about the lion and the mouse.

2. Consolidate there be structure in past tense and learn irregular verbs.

 

Language knowledge:

By the end of the lesson, students will be able to

1. Get the main idea of the story

2. Use the pattern: There was a        The mouse said quietly.

3. Retell the story with the help of the pictures and key words.

 

Culture awareness:

Ss can know general idea of the story.

 

Affection:

The strongest man has his weakness. Lets help each other.

 

Teaching procedures:

Step1. Free talk

Boys and girls , whats your hobby? Can you guess my hobby?

Step2. Lead-in & Presentation

1.T: Yes, I like reading English stories very much. Look, What stories do you know? Today we are going to learn anther interesting storyThe lion and the mouse.

2.first ,lets have a guessing game.

The first one: It is big and strong. It has sharp teeth. It is the king of the forest. What is it?

The second one: It is small and weak. It also has sharp teeth. It makes holes with its teeth. It likes rice and cats like it. What is it?

c. If you were the little mouse or the big lion, what could you say? E.g.  Hi, Im Mr Mouse. I’m very small. I have a long tail. I like jumping on the table at night. I can run very fast.  Practise in pairs, please.

d. What if they met one day? Can they become friends? Lets listen.

Step3. Practice

a. Watch and repeat.

b. The lion was large and strong. So all the animals .

c. One day, a mouse woke him up. How did he feel? What did he do? Did he eat the mouse? What did the mouse and the lion say?

d. The next day, the lion was caught. He bit the net with his sharp teeth. But that didn’t help? Why? How did feel now? What could he say?

e. Then the mouse helped the lion get out of the net. How did the lion feel? Do you think the lion will laugh at the small and weak animals from then on?

f. Read and imitate.

Ss read the story and ask some questions.

h. Act the dialogue.

i. Act out the story.

Step6. Production

a. What does the story tell us? What if the lion didnt let the mouse go?  The lion was so strong, why couldnt he make a hole in the net? The mouse is so small and weak, why did he think he could help the lion?

b. Can you make a reading card?

Step4. Summarization.

The strongest man has his weakness. So lets help each.

Step5. Homework.

1. Oral: 1). Read and recite the new words

2). Read the story. Tell others about what you know from the story.

2. Read some more fables(寓言).
