Many students have problems with grammar, speaking, or writing when preparing for tests, but vocabulary(词汇) is the most common one. Maybe we can do better in tests if we can get some new ways to memorise new words. One way you can have a try is “structured reviewing".
Structured reviewing means continuous(持续的) reviewing of what we have learned in order to better understand it. We all agree that people forget information they have learned if they don't review it in time.
Chart of Steps of “Structured Reviewing"
Memorise five sentences with new words→____________→Review them once a day for 5 days→ Review them once a week→ Review them once a month.
Learn five new words every day. We can learn five different sentences with a new word in each sentence. On the first day in the early morning, we can write them down a few times while reading them aloud so that we can memorise them.
Moreover, we need to review them six times a day, including after breakfast, after lunch at the school and after dinner.
On the second day in the early morning, we go over the first day's sentences. Then we learn five new sentences with five new words just as we did the day before.
For each day's sentences, after we have reviewed them for five continued days, we just need to review them once a week. Then once a month. Through this method, we store them in our long-term memory and will never forget them.
Result of using this method
“I used to hate new English words. I became even angry when I lost points because of the words. But there was no use-new words couldn't be avoided. So, I changed my ways of memorising the words. Now I review them in time. It seems to work well.” -Frank
Many of us usually learn words separately and silently from the word list in our textbook, so we often make mistakes when we write sentences. We should make up our own sentences with new words and read them aloud. In this way, we can remember the new words better.

How do we know about things that happened thousands of years ago when there were no videos or photos? One answer is written records. The earliest written records of Chinese civilization(文明) are known as oracle bone inscriptions (甲骨文).
More than 3,000 years ago, people in the Shang dynasty (about 17th -11th century BC) like to ask fortune tellers(占卜师) about the future. For example, what will the weather be like next week? Where should I go to make money? Will my wife give birth to a boy or a girl? From work to love, people asked questions about many topics. The fortune teller would write the question on an oracle bone, heat it up, and ten read the cracks (裂纹) in it to find an answer.
Tens of thousands of oracle bones have been found so far. They can tell us a great deal about how people lived during the Shang dynasty. “They help us understand the origins of Chinese philosophy(哲学) and thoughts, and figure out where our culture comes from,” Song, a leading oracle bone expert, told China Daily.
In addition to(除了)telling us about ancient Chinese culture, the oracle bones are also key to understanding the development of Chinese characters(汉字). Many of the characters we use today are similar to those used 3,000 years ago. “The oracle bone inscriptions, as the earliest-known mature(成熟的) form of Chinese characters, represent the beauty and uniqueness(唯一)of a language that has been passed down,” said Chen, a professor at Tsinghua University.
In 2017, UNESCO added oracle bone inscriptions to its Memory of the World Register(世界记忆遗产名录).They are indeed a valuable memory of ancient China.

Remember when you were a little child trying to learn to walk?
First, you had to learn how to balance yourself and stand. You fell down, and then got back up. You laughed sometimes and cried at other times. After much practice, you finally learned how to balance yourself. You got much pleasure from this new feeling of power-you’d stand everywhere you could. It was a happy time you did it!
Now, the next step- walking. You’d seen others do it. It didn't look that hard-just move your legs while you were standing. Wrong-more difficult than you ever imagined. But after you tried again and again, you learned how to walk.
If people saw you walking, they cheered, “Oh, look at what the kid is doing." This encouraged you! But look back on those days when you were the little child-how many times did you try when no one was watching, or when no one was cheering? You couldn't wait for someone to encourage you to take the next steps. You learned how to encourage yourself.
So, keep trying and encouraging yourself just like when you learned to walk if you want to succeed at something.

The pilot, Antoine de Saint-Exupéry who wrote The Little Prince, died long ago, but the fictional(虚构的)pilot, who told the story, is as alive today as he was many years ago, along with his prince, the fox, the rose and the snake.
It opens with a reminder: All grown-ups were once children, but few of them remember it. The pilot in this story lost that part of himself. After a stay in the desert with the little prince, he found his inner child again. It is a simple story with life lessons. Here are some.
“One only understands the things that one tames.” Seeing thousands of roses that look like his rose made the prince feel as if he was tricked by his flower. The fox showed him that taming someone takes time. The prince understood the nature of relationships: the time he has spent on his rose makes her so important.
The fox, as his parting gift, shared his secret with the prince: “The heart is what allows us to see clearly.” “What is on surface is not what matters.”
When the pilot showed his picture about the snake eating the elephant, adults only saw it as a hat. Adults couldn't see what was inside the snake.
So “what is essential (十分重要的) is invisible to eyes”. This truth set the little prince free. He decided to join his rose back on his planet.
Has he returned to his planet and his rose? The ending is in the imagination of every reader as well as the pilot. After all, it is a book with something for everyone. This timeless tale touches both kids and adults.

Many forget about spring break compared to the longer winter and summer vacations. Still, spring break is usually a whole week off from schools in the US, so students make use of this time. Always taking place in March or April, spring break is a period when US students often take part in different kinds of activities.
North Carolina, the state where I live, has some of the best hiking trails in the US and is home to many sunny beaches. My family takes spring break as an opportunity to do outdoor activities. During this time, we head outside to explore new hiking destinations(目的地) nearby, connecting with nature and enjoying exciting experiences.
Those who are not outdoorsy pick a more relaxing spring break experience. Going to nearby beaches, shopping and attending local events become common activities for those who prefer to stay closer to home.
Though students don't usually have homework over spring break, many upperclassmen still have busy schedules as they want to focus on personal growth. Students can often be seen taking this time to catch up with schoolwork and prepare for the last days of the school year.
Students see spring break as a chance to relax before the busy school time begins again. Whether enjoying the natural beauty of hiking trails or focusing on personal growth, students make the most of this time.

Imagine you are walking through deep snow. As you walk, you leave footprints behind. That's what happens when using technology, such as computers, mobile phones and tablets. You leave your digital footprint and it will never disappear.
Here are reasons why your digital footprint should matter to you.
How people see you
Of course, you probably have nothing to hide, but if people get information about you, they might judge you from the information you have left online. For example, you make a bad joke online. Years later, it's found by the university you are applying to, and they don't think it's funny. Maybe they decide you are not the “right” kind of person for them.
Your private information
Not everything can be shared with everyone. For example, you might share your school reports with your parents, but keep them secret to your e-friends. If you share them on the Internet, they will not be a secret anymore. Therefore, to protect your privacy(隐私), remember to put less information online.
Keeping your money safe
There are plenty of people looking at information about you, and some of them want to steal from you. So you shouldn't write bank details, card numbers or passwords in emails or text messages.
Overall, the message is: No one can go online without leaving any digital footprint— but with care, you can control it.
1. When do you leave digital footprint?
__________________________________________________________________________________
2. How many reasons are mentioned in the passage?
__________________________________________________________________________________
3. What should you do to protect your privacy?

5. How can you go online safely?

Two weeks later, the children made another note. They held it up as The Green Dragon rushed past. The notice said, “MOTHER IS NEARLY WELL AGAIN. THANK YOU.”
The old gentleman saw the notice. He smiled and waved to the children.
When they told Mother about the old gentleman, she was very angry with them. “It was wrong to ask a stranger for help,” she said. Then, she stopped being angry and began to cry. The children thought this was worse.
“I'm sorry I was angry with you,” she said. “I know you don't really understand. We're poor, but we have enough money for food. You must never ever again ask anyone to give you things.”
The next day was Roberta's birthday. Mother told her to go away and stay away until teatime.
She felt very lonely in the garden, so she walked out of it and down the lane to the canal. While Roberta was standing on the bridge looking down at the barges(驳船), the doctor came up in his small horse and cart. “Hello, head nurse,” he said. “Do you want a ride home?” Roberta got into the cart and sat next to the doctor. Roberta let the doctor go on to his house and she stayed in the garden until teatime. When she went inside, there were twelve candles on the table, flowers, and some little parcels. As she walked into the room, Mother, Phyllis, and Peter sang a song to her.
Mother wrote the words for a birthday song every year.
Our darling Roberta
No sorrow shall hurt her
If we can prevent it
Her whole life long.
Her birthday's our party day
We'll make it our great day
And give her our presents
And sing her our song
At the end of the song, Mother said, “Three cheers for Roberta.” And she, Phyllis, and Peter shouted, “Hip! Hip! Hooray!”

Karlsson, a Swedish teacher at Beijing Union University(BUU),has lived in China for over 15 years. The seeds(种子) of his China journey were sown when he joined in a programme for East Asian studies at Lund University in Sweden in 1997. Back then, cellphones and the Internet hadn't yet come into wide use. Learning Chinese meant using textbooks, heavy dictionaries and audio tapes. He would read the dictionary carefully for hours to understand a one-page Chinese article.
“In those days, it was a real challenge,” he said.
In 2006, with a high score in the official Chinese language test, he won a scholarship for a five-week summer program at Beijing Language and Culture University.
After finishing the study program, Karlsson was offered a Beijing-based job as a market researcher. In 2008, the year Beijing succeeded in hosting the Summer Olympic Games, he got married. In the next year, he started to teach business at BUU.
Life in Beijing has been a wonderful adventure, especially as a witness to the great achievements China has made. It has offered him many chances for personal growth. Today, thanks to high-speed broadband and 5G, he can connect with students at BUU's partner universities in Russia, Montenegro or Mexico while riding on the Beijing subway.
“When you open your eyes to these great projects, it is impossible not to want to be part of them or at least support them somehow," he said.
Although he was busy on teaching days, Karlsson applied for a full-time scholarship at the University of International Business and Economics in Beijing. In 2022, at 44 years old, he got his PhD in economics. “I am quite interested in blockchain technology, and I know that China is quickly becoming the leader in blockchain applications outside the cryptocurrency space. So, I always write my articles in this area,” he said.
“There is always time to follow your dreams unless you decide to give up,” he said. “Taking on seemingly impossible challenges and also helping those around you are what makes life worth living.”
