1. Teach students to use “can” and “could” to talk about the present ability and the ability in the past.
2. Teach students to use “can” “could” “may” to ask for permission.
3. Teach students to use “what” and “how” to express strong feelings.

Part 3 Teaching steps:
Step1. Warm-up and Lead-in
Watch a video about Superman, then ask students “what do you think about the film?” “what do you think of the man ? ” Then show them the two sentences:
“What a brave man!” “What an amazing film!”
Step2. Presentation
1. Show more pictures to students, talk about them with “What”, then ask students to find out the rules.
2. Show them the pictures again. Then talk about them in another way. We can also use “how” to talk about the sentences. Then work out the rule.
3. Group work: give each group two pictures, ask them to talk about the pictures using “What” and “How”. Then show them to the class.
4. Finish the exercises on Page 86.
5. T: What can superman do?
S: He can see through the walls.
He can burn things with his eyes.
….
He can fly as fast as light.
T: Can you fly?
S: No.I can’t.
T: What can you do?
S: I can …….
6. T: This is my daughter. She can ride a bike too. But she couldn’t ride a bike at five years old.
7. Work out the rule. Then make up dialogues.
8. T: Can I fly a kite here? Could I smoke here? May I borrow your English book?
We can use “can” “could” “may” to ask for permission.
9. Finish the exercises on Page 85.
