1. Talking about the solar system

(1) T shows pictures about the solar system and ask questions.

(2) Ss answer the questions. T offers help when necessary.

2. Brainstorming

(1) T asks Ss to think about what they would bring if they had the chance to travel to outer space.

(2) T asks some Ss to give the answers and makes a discussion and provides guidance and assistance when needed.

Introduction and Prediction

Situation: Lily loves astronomy and dreams of visiting the Tiangong space station. Right now, she’s reading a report about the Tiangong class.

T asks Ss to read the situation and title of the text to make a prediction — what Lily will learn from the class？ they’ve made the right prediction 

1. Skimming and Prediction Checking

Ss skim the text and check if they’ve made the right prediction.

2. Scanning and Table Filling

(1) T asks Ss to scan the text and finish activity 1 by finding out the 5 key factors of the report about the class from Tiangong space station.

(2) T asks some Ss to give the answers and makes a discussion and gives explanations when needed.

3. Careful Reading and True Statements Ticking

(1) T asks Ss to read the text carefully and finish activity 2 by ticking the true statements about  the class from Tiangong space station.

(2) T asks some Ss to give the answers and makes a discussion and gives explanations when needed.

4. Repeating the Experiment

(1) Ss are provided with  necessary materials for the experiments.

(2) Ss repeat the experiment following the instruction.

(3) Ss observe the process of the experiment and answer questions.

5. Text Analysis—

Structure and Features

(1) T asks Ss to find out the structure of the text with the help of the table in activity 1 and give explanations when needed.

(2) T introduces 5 key elements of report writings, “where, when, who, what, and how”.

3）T introduces the structures of a news report. News reports are structured like an inverted pyramid. The most important or crucial information is always presented to the reader up front, followed by additional story details.

(4) T encourages Ss to sum up the structures of the text and provides necessary guidance when needed.

从太阳系各行星出发，借助图片和提问熟悉各行星的英文表达及相关太空知识，并畅想去外太空旅行，激发学生对宇宙奥秘探索的兴趣。

引导学生通过已有信息预测Lily会在天宫空间站的直播课堂学到什么，引出课文主题，为课文阅读做好铺垫。

Summary

1. Retelling

(1) T encourages Ss to retell the text to their partners by referring to the table in activity 1 and the statements in activity 2.

(2) T invites a volunteer to retell the text to the whole class.

(3) T evaluates the volunteer student’s retelling and asks Ss to make comments on his/her performance.

T explains the important words, expressions and grammar focuses in the text.

(1) T asks Ss to choose the right word to complete each sentence, changing the form if necessary.

Tips: T can ask Ss to look for the key words or phrases in the sentence, which will help them get the answer.

(1) T asks Ss to circle the right preposition to form a phrase and complete each sentence.

(2) Ss complete each sentence with the correct word given in the brackets.
