Reading 1 Friendship on the rocks: please advise!

Learning objectives:

By the end of this period, students will be able to:

(1) understand these posts and talk Amy`s problems.

(2) get different advice from their classmates and know how to deal with their friendship problems.

(3) adopt a positive attitude about their friendship.

(4)have a positive and correct understanding of friendship 

Important and difficult points

(1) To understand Amy’s problems in making friends and clarify the suggestions given by Cindy and David;

(2) To understand the essence of Amy’s problems.

Teaching Procedures

Step 1 Lead in  

(1) Talk about qualities of a good friend.  

(2) What problems may cause The boat of friendship to sink ?

Step 2. Pre-reading

Students think about these questions and T will show them suggested answers:

(1) What is the structure of this passage?

(2) Do you think there are “friends for life”?

(3) Do you have someone who once was your friend but never talks to you any more now? If so, would you mind sharing your experiences?

Step 3 While-reading

Part 1. Friendship on the rocks

3. Why does Amy have all these feelings?

Part 2. Please advise!

1. What are the pieces of advice from Cindy and David?

Step 4  Post-reading

Task1. Deep thinking   

Ask students to work in groups of four to discuss the problem.and express their views.

If you were Amy, whose advice would you take, Cindy's or David's? Why?

Task2. Personal show  

Ask the students to convey their opinions.
